The current ongoing lockdown has impacted the lives of almost everyone around the world. As domestic and international travels have been banned everywhere, the tourism of each country has been badly hit. But what really scary is that people are waiting for the upliftment of the restrictions so that they can go flying to their favourite destinations the same way they used to.
Someone wrote on his Facebook status that he is sad because the Covid-19 has ruined his summer vacation to an exotic beach where he planned some booze with friends. I don’t think that he is only one thinking like this and that is alarming.
Planning to travel in future is beautiful only if people have become responsible towards nature. I hope lockdown has made us realize how important it is to keep the places clean and sanitised. We should also understand the agony of poor animals in cages in the zoo.
No lesson Learned
If we are not learning anything from this ongoing pandemic then harsh reality is that we may have to face many similar pandemics in future too.
Will we go back to the same materialistic way of travelling once the vaccines will be available? When people will change the materialistic way?
Readers may think that I am very pessimistic in this article but this really scares me. We still love to go to places where animals are treated badly. We, humans, have been very selfish from a long time and now nature has started to show that enough is enough.
Our negligence has been avenged by nature many times in past too. But Corona virus has impacted almost the entire world and that brings little positivity in me that yes it is the right time we will realize that “We must change”.
Fear of Job loss
The travel and tourism industry of our country employs around over 12% of India’s workforce. The iconic places like Tajmahal, Statue of Unity, Balaji Temple and other many famous temples and mosques, gurudwara are closed for the people. The entire country lockdown has hurt the travel industry real bad.
This hit to the travel industry indicates upcoming job loss of millions of people. And if the covid-19 continues to spread then many more will lose their jobs. It will impact the national employment and GDP.
Impact on Indian States
Many Indian states are dependent on their tourism such as Kashmir as tourists and travels are the source of income for over 1.5 L people. Situation is almost similar in places like Goa, Rishikesh, Sikkim and many more.
Impact on International Tourism
International picture of the tourism industry is similar to India. Especially the pockets of small and medium scale travel company owners are begun to go empty. There is no hope of recovery of the income lost. But as soon as the restrictions will be lifted, the countries hugely dependent on tourism will be begging to people to visit places with offering cheap flights and cheap hospitality.
Necessary to boost domestic tourism first
But I have strong feeling that after the covid-19, the domestic tourism will be the first to heal from Corona impacts. Even I urge my Indian friends, followers and readers to cancel their non essential foreign travels to boost Indian economy and lives of local community people.
Options for people whose only income was from travel industry
Although my only source of income has never been travel blogging but there are millions of people who completely dependent on tourism for their living. So what they are going to do? I believe it time to show the creativity and responsibility. Corona lockdown is not forever and the industry will surely rise again someday. Why not to encourage people for more responsible and sustainable travelling.
Why not to bring down the unethical organisations that create mess of our nature to earn huge profits.
It is high time that people understand that the things will never be same again. Those who adapt early will come out of the crisis fast.
Bloggers, travel agents, travel operators must plan to educate their clients in future that how they are going to make sure that the travel itineraries are nature friendly and safe for the tourists.
Reconsider How to treat animals
This is not only for the travellers, travel bloggers or travel industry. Each one of us must come together to stop the diseases like SARS, Ebola, Bird Flu and the latest Covid-19. All the mentioned and many more diseases have been transferred from animals to humans because of inhumanity shown to these poor animals who cannot speak for themselves. We pay in zoos so the animals remain in lockdown?
It is time we stand united against deforestation, animal farming and other inhumane activities with animals.
Sooner or later the vaccine will come in the market. Many of us may not be there if we do not follow the strict lockdown now. So it is best to not worry about the current lockdown because we will bounce back stronger and wise than ever.
The Travel Industry has been shaken by the pandemic but travel and tourism are inevitable. All we need is little patience. And we must fight this together and after corona is over we shall pledge to not repeat the past mistakes. Till then all we can do is hope for better tomorrow. Stay home & stay safe.
